03 Jun We Need Food
Mum, we have a problem!
Those were the words I heard my housekeeper say to me one afternoon.
Everyday my faithful friend, housekeeper, translator and cook helped me to
provide a heaping lunch to twenty- five youth, including three adult workers in my yard around 2:00 pm. This was no different than any other day except we were at the end of the week and instead of twenty-five in the yard, today we had approximately fifty. Twenty- five more than we had planned for. More mouths to feed!
Joyce looked at me once again and said in a whisper, “There nis not enough food for twenty-five more people, even if we do not eat.
I said, “Go into the house and bring more out to cook.”
She shook her head and said, “we have nothing left.”
Understand, I was living in a remote village in Africa. There were no big cities close, no grocery stores and no automobiles to jump into and drive to the nearest place. So, when Joyce said we were running out of food, all I saw were hungry kids and nothing to give to them. Besides, I was waiting to be notified by my small flip phone, that I had money to go buy more supplies. I knew I had nothing left in my purse.
It was at that moment I did something I had never done before in this way. Most of you know that I believe in prayer. I know God hears and will help in different situations, etc. but I had never prayed this prayer this way.
I turned to Joyce as she fed the last of the first twenty-five and asked her to show me what was left in the big pot. She lifted the lid and I could see maybe enough food left for one or two people.
“Put the top back on and help me pray. Lay your hand on mine on top of the lid. Let us ask God to multiply the food to feed everyone that is left, even if we do not eat.”
Together we prayed a short prayer. I reminded God of His word and other stories in the Bible when He fed 5000 so I asked God to do a miracle. “Multiply our loaves and fishes!”
I was so confident of His answer, I raised the lid knowing the pot would be FULL!
OH, NO! There was no change in the amount of food. I shook my head and said, “ Just feed however many you can, but don’t be short on the amount you give. This is their only meal today. We will just need to send the others home until tomorrow.”
I watched her dip down in the pot and heap the plate full of food, wondering if the next person would get a smaller portion because I knew how much was there. She dipped again. The same heaping amount. By the third person, I stopped her to look in the pot. It appeared just a little food left.
We continued to watch each plate be heaped FULL of food until everyone had been fed including us. ALL FIFTY and two ladies ( Joyce and me).
What can we say. I serve a God who does the IMPOSSIBLE. I saw Him that day multiply our little food to feed more than I could have fed. I have seen Him do this and many other miracles with my own two eyes.
He will surprise you and turn your life around.
Are you in a bad place? Ask Jesus to help. Are you sick and have no answers? Ask Jesus, He is our healer! Is your marriage on the rocks? Ask Jesus, He will put new love for that person in your heart!
My friend Jesus is a miracle worker. Embrace the Impossible today over any and every circumstance in your life. He comes to you when we ask.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord for doing the impossible in my life. I give you my heart, my everyday life, my friendships and relationships. I believe you can and will help me be an overcomer. I believe in you, your love and in miracles. Amen.
Luke 1:37 “ For with God, nothing shall be impossible.”
