The Heart of a Mother
Thank you, Sister Rhonda, for your wonderful praise and worship today!
Hello everybody! I’m Reverend Tammy Miller, currently residing in England, and currently packing to move back to the United States in just a couple of days as our Ministry to the Military assignment here has come to an end. I want to thank Sister Kathy Swift for inviting me to share a moment with you about:
How God Looks at a Mother’s Heart.
Some time ago, our grandson was not feeling very well at all, and our daughter-in-love, Angie, posted this on her facebook page. She said,
I’ve had to #mom so hard this week. With our little guy being sick and me not feeling 100% well, it’s not been an easy past few days. Even so, I wouldn’t change a minute of it. She goes on to say…. Being a woman means more than titles or labels. It means knowing your name is “Daughter.” Made female by the grace and sovereignty of an incredible Creator. You may feel tired, stressed, misunderstood, underestimated, or mislabeled. Yet, your Creator says you are on purpose, unique, loved, seen, heard, resilient, a daughter. You are made female and that’s perfect!
I love that! We all must know that mothers play a role in the process of raising a child that is simply irreplaceable. Today, we not only want to recognize that, but we want to find out where the heart of a mother comes from!
You know, home is where we feel loved. Home is where we feel accepted; we feel safe; we find rest. Home is where we are clothed, fed, and nurtured. But home isn’t necessarily a location, but rather an environment that’s created by the heart of a mother!
I like this description of a mother’s heart. Our mothers:
– Heal our wounds
– Carry our burdens
– Challenge our insecurities
– Invest in our dreams
– Shape our character
– Defend our freedoms
– Fight for our opportunities
– Solve our problems
– Weep over our defeats
– Celebrate our victories
– Pray for our protection
And the list can go on and on, right?
I think one of the greatest tragedies in our society today is the diminishing role that mothers are having in the development of their children. Whether it’s from the heaviness of single parenting or the socialization and stigma of the feminist movement, it seems the role of mothers is being reduced. The highest calling in the world is a parent training their children to serve the Lord!
> Clearly God celebrates mothers so much he dedicated an entire chapter of the Bible to them!
> God selected Elizabeth to nurture John the Baptist who paved the road for Jesus!
> God chose Mother Eunice and Grandma Lois to develop young Timothy into pastoring the largest church in the New Testament
> And let us never forget that God called a mother named Mary to birth and nurture the Savior of the world!
There’s not a person in history, who hasn’t been touched in some way by a mother!
The love of a mother comes from the heart of our heavenly Father. There is a mother’s heart in Father God!!!
God’s character, how can we search it? How can we know it? We cannot overlook his handiwork in fashioning a mother’s heart. After all He:
He gave birth to the universe.
He gave birth to our planet.
He gave birth to us, and when we fell, He sent His Son to re-birth us! The most powerful attribute of His mother’s heart is God’s lavish forgiveness of our sins. Our black sins were washed in red blood, producing robes of white righteousness. Like the mother that deliberately forgets her child’s shortcomings, He casts our sins as far as the east is from the west, until they are sinking to the floor of the Sea of Forgetfulness.
We know that God loves us unconditionally with a love that is a nurturing love that builds the foundation of our lives. And we as human beings learn how to love in response to being nurtured and tenderly cared for.
I truly believe the reason there is so much anger, and insecurity, depression, and sexual identity issues in our culture today is because countless people are missing the foundation of a pure, nurturing love!
I have so enjoyed sharing with you today, from this Mother’s Heart. For I have been blessed beyond measure with children and grandchildren who love the Lord and are serving Him! No greater joy!
As Sister Rhonda is about to bless the Lord once again in song, I’ll close with one of my favorite blessings from Numbers, chapter 6:24-26 that says:
“The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” Amen!
