Love of the Father: a Message from Chris and Kathy Swift

I’m Kathy and this is my husband, Chris
Today we are doing something a little different. We are going to talk about
“A Father’s Love.”
How important our own dads were in our lives
Because this month is all about “DADS.”
It is June!

Chris….”You know there is a scripture for that.”
I John 4: 7-8 says. “Beloved, let us love one another. For love is of God. And everyone that loves is born of God and knows God….”
And he that loveth not, does not know God… ( does not know God) for God is love!”

Kathy….”I am going to talk a little bit about my dad.
My dad was so special! I had a great dad and it was wonderful to spend time with him.
In fact, he was my best friend.
I didn’t care if we were outside working in the yard or if we were walking through the forest looking for trees to dig up and plant in our yard or …sometimes, dad would have a pile of nuts, bolts and all kinds of things that mechanics would have. I would set on the basement floor with dad and separate them into bowls and into jars. It was always so special.
My Dad loved me and I loved him!”

Kathy….”What about your dad?”

Chris….”Well you know, fathers are all different. My Father did read stories to me when I was a little child but growing up, I didn’t see much of him. We didn’t do a lot of things together.”

Kathy….”Oh, I am so sorry.”

Chris…. “So I missed out on that but you know that’s why it is so important that we can have a Heavenly Father’s love. “

Kathy…. “So, you didn’t really feel that warmth and love from your father that I felt?”

Chris….”No. Actually as I was growing up things got kind of worse. And I didn’t feel I had a relationship with him.”

Kathy….”I’m sorry. You know so many of our viewers they have different home lives. Some have grown up with a father’s love in their home and others have come from homes that didn’t have a dad represented. Or perhaps, like yours , one as warm and loving like I did. “
“So when we think about having a relationship with our Heavenly Father … I think sometimes, if you had a warm loving relationship at home, it is easier to give your heart to the Lord because you accept his love. Just because it says that in the Bible. .. that He loved us!”
John 3:16. Says, “ God loved us so much HE sent his only son ….to die for us!”

Chris….”So the Father sent his son ….”
Kathy….”yes, His son.”

Chris…. “In fact, Jesus says himself that the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and believe that I came from God”. John 16: 27

Kathy….. “I feel sorry in many ways for those who have not had that earthly Father’s love but now you and I came from different backgrounds. We both had an earthly father in the home but you grew up resentful and bitter. In fact, it affected your spirituality. “

Chris…..”I kind of think that maybe my lack of relationship with my father also effected my lack of relationship with God. I was angry and upset. I didn’t think I needed God until later when I became an adult.”

Kathy…….”And you proclaimed yourself as an atheist.”

Chris….. “Yes. It was so bad that I thought I was an atheist and didn’t believe in God. But when I was 21 I came to a realization when I was talking to a beautiful Christian lady, that I really did need God.”

Kathy…..”you see when I gave my life to the Lord, real commitment when I was age 18, I accepted God’s love. I wanted God’s love because I felt that at home. So it doesn’t really matter where we come from, GOD LOVES ALL OF US!”

Chris…..”And God will restore the Love of children and parents . In fact, that is what Jesus said would happen, that HE would restore the hearts of the children to their fathers and the mothers. He restores the relationships. I had a much better relationship with my father and mother after I accepted Christ. “

Kathy…..”And, that’s what this month is all about. How HE embraces us. HE knows no boundaries. It doesn’t matter if we are good, bad or ugly. It doesn’t matter!
Jesus loves us!”

Chris……””That’s right.”

Kathy…..” You know, if you are perhaps like Chris was when he was growing up. Maybe you are disheartened. Maybe you are angry or bitter. Maybe, you just don’t believe that even there is a God! But he’s there! And it says in the Bible, that if we will come close to him, he will come close to us.”

Chris….”That’s right. One of the beautiful stories in the Bible is found in Luke chapter 15. We see that after the prodigal son leaves his home, the father goes out everyday and looks for some sign that his son is coming.”

Kathy….”Can you imagine?”

Chris…..”And he runs to meet him! That is such a beautiful image of a Father who loves his lost son and loves his daughters. He comes to meet them wherever they are.”

Kathy….”That’s right. So whoever you are and wherever you are in your life right now.
Remember this, no time like today to know the Father’s love. HE loves you!”

Chris….”That’s right.”

Kathy…..” He cares about you. And he wants you to come close to him. Let’s pray.”

Chris prays…….
“Lord, we thank you for your love which is really the Father’s love through you. We thank you that you were sent into a lost world full of people whose hearts were broken and searching. You came to give them love and peace and joy as well as all the fruits of the Holy Spirit. “
Kathy………”Now come into our lives today. Fresh, brand new! Help us remember that first love or help us today to give our lives to you with all of our hearts that your love might surround us, keep us and hold us until we meet you someday in heaven.
Thank you Father for your love. In Jesus name, Amen”
