12 Nov If God is for us, Who can be against us?
Hello friend, today I want to share some thoughts about the letter of the apostle Paul who wrote to the Romans.
I really like this letter because Paul sent it to the church in Rome which is about 300 kilometers from where I was born.
I would like to focus on chapter 8 verse 31 and then expand this reflection with other passages.
In these passages we find confirmation to hope and certainty that we have in Christ Jesus. We live in an increasingly confused world, so it is very important every day to remember the riches we have in Christ, and what we are in Him.
We each have our own story to tell, made up of both the good times and the difficult and in some cases even traumatic and dramatic times. When the person telling has come to know who God is for her, whatever story she wants to share, it at the end encompasses the wonderful plan of the Lord who is always present at all stages of her journey. A wonderful and powerful God who intervenes by not allowing the enemy to go any further. It is very beautiful to see this wonderful Lord choosing you and predestining you to be his child forever making you his heir and co-heir with Christ Jesus and showing his unfailing love.
God on my side.
Let us now look at how God is on our side beyond.
The text of Romans 8:31 says:
IF GOD IS FOR US, WHO CAN BE AGAINST US?
What does Paul mean by whether God is for us?
Here we are dealing with the various amazing evidence of God’s infallible love listed in the preceding verses.
Romans 8 contains precious verses that strengthen us and lift us up, helping us through the most critical and difficult times, both physical and spiritual, even in our weaknesses and frailties, and even when the accuser points his finger at us, Jesus will not let him by defending us. Isn’t that wonderful?
The other situations are when we do not understand what is happening. There are sometimes times when we do not see and do not understand why it is happening. But we have great assurance that God has taken control and that, everything that will happen will be part of His magnificent plan, cooperating for our good.
Romans 8:28 is also the answer you give yourself when you don’t understand why, and everything is out of your control. Nothing is happening without the control of our glorious Sovereign. Isn’t that good news? While instead the other passage is found in chapter 8:31 which is the culmination of all the wonderful promises.
They remind us of who God is and how he helps us. When we understand the truth that God is for us, we have nothing to fear even in the darkest times.
If God is for us, it is understood that he is on our side, he is working on our behalf and for our good, even if it does not look that way in our eyes.
Let us always remember that God has demonstrated his graciousness and infallible love for his elect: 8:15 HE GIVEN HIS ONLY SON TO SAVE US FROM ETERNAL CONDEMNATION, JUSTIFIED, ADOPTED, SAVED, REGENERATED, ELECTED, PREDESTINED, CREATED US, GIVEN HIS SPIRIT, MAKED US HIS HEIRS, MADE US HIS HEIRDS, PARENTS OF HIS FAMILY, SANCTIFIED US, GIVEN US EVERYTHING.
(Romans 8:16-17, 26-27, 29-30)
No one is more powerful than God.
The next question is “who can be against us? What is still missing THAT GOD HAS NOT done and does not do for us? The question is rhetorical. It is another way of saying, “There is NO ONE who could be more powerful than God” or “No one can destroy me.” The idea is not that we will never face opposition, but it simply means that opposition against us is doomed to failure. It may be against us, but without success. And since God is on our side, we have nothing to worry about. These Bible quotes reassure us and help us rest in the Lord’s promises, waiting for them to be fulfilled in our eyes in God’s time.
Romans 8:31 is an echo of other passages that say something similar. Psalm 118:6; 1 Kings 6:16; Psalm 56:9; Hebrews 13:9 and again Psalm 27:1.
Then who could be against me? We can make a long list by including times of sickness. Our enemies in real life seem to overshadow the ideas conveyed in Romans 8.
Despite the promises there are times we have to endure physical, spiritual, mental and emotional struggles, so many that we sometimes wonder if God is really on our side. However, Paul’s intimate relationship with the risen Christ had become his all-consuming passion. The man who wrote Romans 8 faced the same struggles of our day and many more of our own.
Paul lists them in 2 Corinthians 11:22-28 as evidence that he did not write in a plastic bubble of eternal peace and considered everything else to be “garbage” compared to the KNOWLEDGE of Christ (Philippians 3:7-9). He had learned the secret of contentment, whether celebrated or imprisoned, and declared that secret:
I CAN DO ALL THIS THROUGH HIM WHO GIVES ME STRENGTH (Philippians 4:13).
Dear friend whatever struggles you are facing, I encourage you not to give up, cling to the Lord with all your strength, discover the secret of Paul’s contentment. Let your intimate relationship with him grow more and more. If you are doing God’s will, and are sincerely and earnestly following Him, fear nothing; remember that if you are on His side, God is on yours, even if the whole world were against. If God is for us who will be against us.
When Paul wrote this, he was comparing the earthly opposition of the enemy with the ETERNAL POWER and the PRESENCE OF GOD ONNIPOTENT, who is the only one declaring the WINNER.
No one on earth will ever SURPASS GOD’S LOVE FOR US.
May this message bring many riches and spiritual blessings to your life and those around you.
