06 Dec God’s Love is Amazing: Deep Seated Fear
Genesis 20
10 And Abimelek asked Abraham, “What was your reason for doing this?”
11 Abraham replied, “I said to myself, ‘There is surely no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.’
Abraham had this deep-seated fear of being killed on account of his beautiful wife.
Abraham was 75 years old when God caused him to wander from his father’s house. When this event happened, he was probably 99 years old. And this was not the first time this fear was mentioned, in the first years after he wandered from his father’s house Abraham had the same situation with pharaoh in Egypt (Genesis 12).
He prepared for this by begging Sarah to say she is his sister (Genesis 12 verse 13).
Normally our fear doesn’t show up in our everyday lives. It is there but it’s not being triggered. BUT in life the time will come when a pharaoh or a king comes along, how we respond is one thing but how God responded in these accounts shows how amazing He is in our deepest fear.
He did not hold it against Abraham, saying you did not trust Me, you did not believe in Me and therefore I will let the pharaoh, or the king have your wife. NO, He did not.
Genesis 12 verse
17 But the Lord scourged Pharaoh and his household with serious plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.
Genesis 20 verse
3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night and said, Behold you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken for she is a man’s wife;
God came to those two giants personally and made sure they knew exactly who they were dealing with, they knew the God whom Abraham served had his back.
Genesis 12 verse 20 Then Pharaoh gave orders about Abram to his men, and they sent him on his way, with his wife and everything he had.
Pharaoh gave orders to his men, why? Because pharaoh feared Abram.
Genesis 21 verse 22
At that time Abimelek and Phicol the commander of his forces said to Abraham, “God is with you in everything you do.
Abimelek brought his commander of his forces to make a treaty with Abraham, why? Because Abimelek feared Abraham.
God turned Abraham’s fear to being feared by giants.
Father God declared Abraham a prophet. Role of the Prophet, is a spokesperson for God.
Genesis 20 verse 7 ‘Now therefore, restore the man’s wife; for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you shall live. ‘ NKJV
God gave Abraham the power. He will pray for you and you will live.
How amazing is God’s love for us that He could turn a situation around like this? That He could lift up Abraham from a fearful man to a man that has to pray for the king to be restored.
Prayer
Father God thank you that we can trust You to have our backs even when we operate out of our deepest fear. Please help us to see that You have our backs and that we can trust You to work all things for good, for Your glory.
Thank you Father God that You don’t operate like the world by belittling us for our fear but that you lift us up to a place that You know we can grow into.
We bless you and exalt Your holy Name.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
