17 Jun Devotional for Dads
Worship from Luxembourg!
Years ago I had the privilege to fly to Jerusalem for only 12 hours. It was Easter Weekend and many people were visiting, both christians, Jews and people of other faith. The one thing that really impressed me while I was walking the Via Dolorosa, was that I could observe how jewish fathers were sitting with their children at the entrance of their doors, reading and teaching the Torah. I thought to myself that if the Jews take this so seriously, we children of God, shouldn’t we learn from this too? This motivated and encouraged me to be a better father to my children and to guide them at the best of my ability in their spiritual and natural walk in life.
As believers our first duty is to lead our children to God. But how does this take place? This can only happen once we enable the love of God the father to be communicated to our children through us. How can they otherwise have a revelation of who God is as a father, if we don’t strive to be more like Him? We fathers are a living example to our kids. Children observe us when we pray, they watch us when we have our devotionals, they listen when we speak and see especially how we behave and learn from it.
For me personally being a father is a great privilege. God is a father to us and he has shown us how we need to love, instruct and raise our children, the way he has loved us and instructed us. I feel privileged that God has entrusted me with the same responsibility that he himself has as a father towards his own children. Over the years I have learned a lot through my children and understand the world a little more day by day. It has made me grow as a person and spiritually as well. I am grateful to God for this gift.
