All Things New
“And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful”. – Rev. 21:5
One of the beautiful facets of God is that He is a God of incessant creation and change. It’s those six words tucked away in this scripture that has captured my attention for today’s devotional, “Behold, I make all things new”. While these words are scripture that describes the end time, this has always been the ongoing process and plan of God within our lives. It is important that we recognize all that Jesus Christ is doing in us and through us at all times during the duration of our Christian pilgrimage. Everything around us, our world, our home, and ultimately our lives are continuously changing. One’s ability to accept and adjust throughout this transitional process is key. These words are not just words of advice, but rather a call of declaration. It is the will of God that our being enters into this living phrase. We must learn and be willing to leave behind all things that are old and embrace all things that are new. How do we accomplish this? By understanding that our unremitting interminable Savour is perpetually working within our lives to make all things new.
This phrase opens with the word, “Behold”. A word that demands attention. A word that screams out, stop, listen, and observe. I am going to say something that is tremendously important. This might shock you, for your entering the rim of the supernatural. Get yourself ready for this and don’t allow this truth to slip by you, “Behold”.
The phrase continues by announcing the one who is behind this wonder, “I make”. He, God alone is the author and cause. He is preceding it all. It is important that you recognize what He did not say. He did not say “I will make new all things”. He said, “I will make all things new”. In other words, I will take that which exist and refashion it. The very experiences of your life shall birth new things. The temptations of us humans are to say that He will start over again, but not so. Rather, He takes existing material, things experienced and already gleaned from life and constructs, forms and fashions from that which is already there, things that are new. I need also to emphasize from our text the words “all things”. This is not a half done job. I will make “all things” new.
In this New Year you and I will make a choice. Will we grow from the past, or be devastated or hindered by the past. We will embrace the newness of what past experiences has taught us, or, we will allow our disappointments to overshadow the opportunities that tomorrow will bring. In this New Year be reminded that as Christians, we must recognize that Christ is perpetually working within our lives each day to make all things new. Through this miraculous intervening of God within our lives, He will not remove our past. But, if we will allow Him, He will take those experiences both good and bad to recreate within us the right spirit, heart, and attitude.
Making every day a new day. May God’s richest blessings rest upon you in this New Year.
